I am late by a week and the room reveal is still partial as there are some bits that will take a little longer to finish. I am just not finding the time and more importantly the right stuff to do what I want to in the room. But if I wait to complete the room before I share it with you..it might be a good couple of months. So here's a good look into Meyha's room..I promise to share the remaining sections once they are done to my satisfaction...
So..here goes....
A queen size antique four-poster bed dominates the room..I had to tackle quite a few objections to my decision to paint the original polished Burma teak a crisp white ..but I persisted and I think the result speaks for itself!!
On the side table is the 'Luna' lamp from the Indi Store in Delhi..and the table it rests on was bought at a US embassy sale and then topped with white marble. The Vespa scooter that we picked up in Melbourne ( no, not Italy!) is the exact color as the walls...a beautiful duck's egg blue which we custom mixed on site..therefore I cannot give you the brand/code for it. It is a gorgeous color and changes hue with the time of the day...
Here's a full frontal view of the bed..I love the claw-foot design of the legs..so magnificent! I still have to fix the carved frame on top of the posts..but not just yet. The cushions and bolster are from Good Earth ..The quilt( not really visible) is my own design that I made for a client in New Zealand when I was still running my quilt export business...The throw is an organdie cutwork design from Fabindia. Under the bed is a leather trunk where I store her bed linen...The durrie on the floor is by Shyam Ahuja...
The light fixture over the bed has been created by covering a standard wall sconce with the famed 'garland light' by Tord Boontje which we bought long before we started work on our house. Since I couldn't find any place to suspend it from ..I decided to twist it gently around the wall sconce..it is totally unique and looks beautiful...
On the other side of the bed is the chest of drawers that I got made when Meyha was born..9 years ago..with time, the white has yellowed a bit but I love it like it is..so no repainting for now..To revamp it, I just replaced the old knobs with the colorful button covered knobs from Zara Home.
Here's a closer look..The artwork is a castle drawn by Meyha a couple of years back..and the ceramic Dutch houses are the ones you get on KLM flights!!
The tissue paper pompoms that I always make for my children's birthdays find pride of place inside the room once the party is over! The rustic bird mobile was made by Meyha for a class project last year...
The art wall that I hard shared with you earlier..is a mix of art made by Meyha and some others picked up from Rome, Barcelona and London during our travels..The artwork comprising four colored rectangles with stick drawing was made by Meyha when she was 3 years old!! I plan to keep adding to it..I'm sure a few months from now Ayan will have some creative talent worth displaying!
Since I promised my daughter that she will feel like a princess in her room..the fairy lights add just the right amount of twinkle to make my little girl very very happy!
Still to come..the book shelves and reading corner, the sitting area and also the console under the art wall to anchor it..all the big pieces are already there..its the finer bits that are taking all the time... Hopefully soon!
Doing up my daughter's room has been a delightful experience and I am very happy with how it has turned out so far. I would really appreciate your feedback on my labour of love!

IT's lovely...just the right amount of young girly-ness without too much fuss! Showed to my daughter and she loved it!Loved the white bed, of course!

Hello,
I am so glad I found your blog. It is charming and , may I say, real!
The bed looks lovely in white (dark and wood-sy would be too serious for a young girl, I think). And I love fairtylights! This is so playful!
What I also like is the way you combined your daughter's artwork with travel finds. It makes the room feel more personal.
We've had decorated our shop with lovely handmade paper flowers. I wonder if they were Indian. I must make post and then you may tell me!
Wishing you health and happiness.
Its fabulous Meenal ! and what i love most is the fact that you've not stuck to the usual 'Pink' that people often use while designing girl's rooms....
Look forward to your next post :)
Wish I was your little girl! Great job, meenal! Love the fact that everything to delight a kid is there and yet it looks uncluttered. Love the colors, the light sconce ado that you've always wanted and cleverly used, the artwork, the rug, the leather box, the beautiful quilt and the scOoter. If anything Is left I love it too. But what took my breath away for a sheer creatively and aesthetically used idea are the fairy lights. Too cool
Very pretty!

Beautiful , beautiful , beautiful. Your little girl is really lucky. Loved the idea of painting the bed white, I really like that, the guts to stick to your gut :) The wall is gorgeous with all the art work. It's nice and mellow and peaceful, lots of uncluttered thoughts ahead. The ferry lights are wonderful, they always put a smile on when they come on dont they ? All in all, cannot wait to see the rest of it. Pat yourself on the back as you go along.
I love everything here, but that picture with the fairy lights just stole my heart! It's magical and very princess-y!
