House tour- sublime modernity

Modern, serene and beautiful...this family home located in a regional park near Vilnius in Lithuania is a wonderful example of preserving the old while making something new...What at first glance looks like the reflection of a nearby house is actually the original yellow brick cottage that was so ingeniously wrapped in an outer glass structure by the architects at Architectu Biureafter it was discovered that the cottage was made with some valuable old bricks. The discovery led to a complete change of plans and the building of this incredible home...

Enveloped in this shell of glass, the ground floor has an unmatched 360 degree view of the regional park...

The simple yet stunning facade...

A fabulously modern staircase connects all the different levels of the house, starting from the basement...

Another look at the staircase juxtaposed with the original brick structure..such a beautiful contrast...

A modern minimalistic dining area...

Finally, the kitchen with it's fabulous view that must lead to some really inspired cooking!!

I could very happily live here...could you?

P.S.: You'll never guess what all it took for me to compose this post..I have not been able to sign into my blogger account through explorer since this morning on my laptop( which incidentally has all my image files)..my other option was to use the iPad which only allows for composing the post in the dreaded HTML mode..I have no idea how I pulled it off..if anyone knows an easier way of blogging on the iPad, please be kind enough to share!! I have heard about the Blogpress app. but don't know how good it is.

Monday pinterest love- fairy lights

I know it's a whole day after monday..but I had some serious issues with my laptop yesterday. Let's pretend it is still monday, shall we...and start off the week on a twinkling note!

With a delicious dose of these little twinkle lights..that go a long way in adding...

... a whole lot of sparkle to that most important day of your life...

...and to the celebrations that follow...

...or a little bit of whimsy to a special day...

...some extra fun to a fun-filled evening...

...and a touch of magic to the 'everyday'...

This is the image that sparked off today's post!

...at times it can be unusual....

...at others... simply radical...

iPhone image(s) of the week...

Even though we landed in Goa in the middle of the monsoon ...we were lucky to be able to follow this sign as often as we desired... since the heavens opened up either very late in the evening or in the wee hours of the morning...

And when the dark monsoon clouds did gather..it made for a stunning sight...

I will say hello to the rain...

via weheartit

By the time you finish reading this post I would be on a flight to Goa.. ready to indulge in some monsoon madness on the beach. I am very excited to see Ayan's reaction on seeing a plane up close (and flying in it) and also on the beach as the last time he experienced either, he was too little to really understand!
I'm not sure if I will be inclined to post during the mini-vacation ( I'll try)..but I promise to come back with some beautiful images to share!! Have a lovely 'rest of the week' and a wonderful weekend!!

( I must admit..if it were my room...apart from the Budha..I would not have the profusion of heads on the ledge).

On a beautiful paper trail...

One of the many interesting things I found in Jaipur was a wonderful source for hand-made paper. Today I will take you along on an interesting journey of paper that begins with this sack of waste trimmings from the hosiery industry...

...which undergoes a process of shredding+bleaching+dyeing...resulting in this wonderful slush all ready to start its new life as paper...

...but only after the slush  has been flattened out into sheets...

Rolled over to squeeze out extra moisture...

...and further dried by inserting a layer of voile fabric between every two layers of what would soon be ...paper...

...which is then passed through a paper press...

..so it comes out all flat and nice...

..ready to be sorted...

...and stacked up for further processing...

...which is sometimes in the form of screen printing...

...to make some beautifully patterned paper ready to be used just like that...or...

...crafted into anything from stationery to bags to lampshades to boxes ( i heard they make curtains too!!)...the possibilties limited only by one's own imagination...

...did I mention boxes?...yes some utterly gorgeous boxes...

...gloriously tree-free and consequently guilt-free beauties ...

Easy on the conscience and surely something to make the mother earth smile!! I'll be sharing some more tree-free paper goodies very soon. Have a lovely day!
