Interiors | Eco-consciousness | The (Super) Model Way

Take a tour of super-model Gisele Bündchen's home in Brentwood, California, that she shares with her husband, Tom Brady and their children. In their eco-conscious home, they use solar energy for all their electricity needs, recyle water, grow their own vegetables, rear chickens and have composting to utilize organic waste.

Surely, such aspects display 'model' behaviour, well worth emulating, but their 'life' per se is hardly  'normal' as AD would have us believe. Not that I'd complain for such 'normalcy' in my life!

Here she is, in all her super gorgeousness...

Meyha's Room | Little Changes

I shared pictures of my daughter Meyha's room almost 2 years back (here). I loved everything about that room, so I never bothered to change anything. However, I recently made a few minor changes to make it a little brighter and add some extra sleeping option...

Here's the 'Before' picture ( the light is really bad in this one)...

And this is what it looks like now...

As you can see everything is practically the same, but I changed the bed linen and cushions ( still staying with the pink and blue color scheme ) , only they are brighter this time. The two slip-covered ottomans (from Bo Concept) at the foot of the bed  are a new addition to the room. They provide extra seating when Meyha has friends over and if a couple of them stay for the night, we unfold the ottomans and they join to make a very comfortable Queen-sized bed!! It is really like having an extra bed in the room without compromising the space.

The candy- striped bolsters and the reversible quilt on the bed are both custom-made. The chevron cushions are from Good Earth. The beautiful woven basket is something I picked up from a craft bazaar in Delhi. It looks like it was specifically made for this room!

The very vibrant lumbar pillow has been made from an intricately hand-embroidered vintage textile ( a beautiful tribal skirt that I had sourced) from the state of Gujarat.  It is really the focal-point of this room.

I am very happy with the fresh vibe of this room now...some time little things go a long way. I would love to know your thoughts on this mini-make-over.

Interiors | Black & White | Classic-Modern

Today I came across the work of Spanish interior designer Nacho Polo while looking for some black & white interior inspiration.

This particular project entailed restoring the historical memory of an early 19th century home in Madrid. The end product is truly swoon-worthy... with the old glory restored by uncovering and retaining the old architectural details and new life infused through a clever and artistic amalgamation of classic and modern design elements...

In all the rooms there is a beautiful juxtaposition of modern furniture with the traditional architectural details like the elaborate crown molding. The effect is very striking yet harmonious...

Such a gorgeous collection of chandeliers...

If a black & white palette is too stark or daunting for you, experimenting with the look in a small space, a power room for instance, may be the best way to go...

Kitchen | Pitched Ceiling | Skylight

Today I am crushing on these  two kitchens with pitched ceilings. The skylights expand the space visually by flooding the rooms with natural light...

First with a cool, modern feel...

The other with a rustic-industrial flair...

Looking at these images,  an attic seems to be just the place to set up a kitchen!

Monday Workspace

A sawhorse worktable with the iconic Arco lamp hovering over it, sheets of paper waiting to be scribbled upon with the blueprint for a new idea, rolls of fabric ready to be fashioned into something fabulous and to top it all, that utterly fabulous ceiling..Surely there isn't a better place to start a brand new work week! Have a great Monday, everyone!

Interior | Manhattan Duplex

I am so in love with this home in this month's Architectural Digest. Uber hairstylist Guido Palau's beautiful duplex home is such a rich amalgamation of art, textiles and artifacts, collected by Guido. Everything is so artistically layered and displayed creating soothing harmony.
Even though it's a man's house..I would move right in and not change a thing...

A burst of bright red from Jeff Muhs' painting is so striking against the grey sofa...

I love this all-grey stainless steel kitchen. The backsplash is also blackened steel...

Gorgeous textiles add layers of interest and character to an otherwise neutral master suite...

A painting by Mark Beard dominates the guest room...

Such a lovely garden room to sip some wine, read a book or just for those 40 winks...

The garden room leads out to a lush terrace garden...what a luxury in Manhattan!

Interior | Meticulous| Mid-century | Masculine

“I like it as clean and as uncluttered as possible” .
One look at fashion designer Thom Browne's Manhattan apartment and one is left in no doubt that he means what he says. Just like his collections, his apartment is a study in 'tailored crispness'...

Spare, modern and masculine with a fair smattering of mid-century collectibles and vintage clocks, Champagne coupes and crystal ashtrays...

Severe and stylish...a bedroom that would suit an military officer just perfectly...

Monday workspace

What's not to love about this room? Of the two walls that we can see here..one is lined with books and the other all glass...I love the old rugs on the floors..they bring so much warmth and character  to an otherwise modern room.

Here even work would feel like leisure...

Home | Entryway

Thought I'd share a picture of the vignette I styled in my own entryway this morning...The picture isn't very bright due to bad light..but I just wanted to share...

The larger painting was bought at a hotel auction many moons ago for some real measly sum which I can't recall..maybe 3 Dollars! The smaller painting was bought from the flea market in Vevey in June this year . The table is a flea market find...and the lantern is from Good Earth...

The wire architectural sculpture was bought from Jaipur ( AKFD Studio)... as was the little motorbike fashioned from scrap...

The same in sepia...I do like life in sepia sometimes...adds a sense of history...

Color Concentrate | Blue

If asked to do up a whole room in a single color, I would most probably gravitate towards the always- reliable and 'safe' WHITE, or shades thereof.

But one look at this All-Blue spectacle by interior designers, Kelli Ford and Kirsten Fitzgibbons, I am tempted to be a little bold and take some risks and. It does take special talent to cover a room, ceiling to floor ( walls included ) in one striking color and come out tops!

It's such a gorgeous mix of patterns with absolutely stunning outcome...

Interior | Boho-Glam

A lot of neutral key pieces ( mainly black & white), vintage finds, a nod to her Moroccan heritage ( I spotted a Beni Ourain rug, a moroccan wedding blanket & a bone inlay chest )  and a very obvious love for all things 'brass'.

These are but a few highlights of Jessica Marx's ( of the blog Life's Little Gems) lovely bohemian abode...Take a peak into this glamorous home...
