Bittersweet day...and a 'hairy' tale...

Today my boy stepped out of his home and put his first tentative little steps inside a school..with his excited and anxious parents ( ok..make that mom..since the father was pretty cool about it all)....Even though he'll have to go only for an hour initially..gradually moving up to 3hrs ( 5 days a week) accompanied by mom or dad who'll stay with him all the while for the first few MONTHS...it still was a BIG day for us...this being his first formal introduction to the outside world...of peers, teachers and yes.. some rules( mommie's rules don't really count as they are always interspersed with a dozen hugs and kisses). Today really was a day of mixed feelings and emotions...for me, mostly.

It didn't turn out the way I had anticipated..Since Ayan is a very sociable and happy boy, I was hoping for the day to be a breeze..but that was not to be, as he spotted his big sister the moment he entered the school and after that it was just a whole lot of shouting and running for the door to get to her..and to top it all he was the only one making a racket..while the others decided to be at their best behaviour, more or less...An hour has never felt longer...

Well..for the big day, apart from a tiny bag and a big water bottle I had to give  his gorgeous hair a little trim...since the school is rather strict about boys with long hair...and they won't be too pleased with my little tricks like this...

..or pinning up his hair. At present they have asked all parents to make sure that no hair gets into the eyes..they'll get stricter after two years when the kids have to wear regulation uniform...absolutely no long hair for boys then.

For now I've left most of it untouched and just trimmed those in the front so they don't get into his eyes( you see those bangs a la Jim Morrison in the first photo?) ..I'm keeping my fingers crossed and really hoping I can save his hair for atleast another year..I know how to make my own life stressful...but you tell me..would you have the heart to take a pair of scissors anywhere near these??

I'm with you on the long hair for boys. It's about time it came back into fashion ~ and when they have hair this beautiful, it is so sad to have to cut it all off. Such lovely curls! My 11 year old has curly hair too, and I let it grow as long as possible, until he complains that he can't see!

Love the new profile shot ~ you and your children are all gorgeous.

Thanks Virginia..you are too sweet! I've always loved long hair on boys..its a pity they wont allow it in school..breaks my heart to think that I might need to cut them sooner than later..xx meenal
