An idea to steal...

We all have seen endless desk makeovers..some fabulous and others not quite. But here's one which is absolutely smashing..it's all idea and no effort ( unless moving two pieces of furniture amounts to any serious effort)...

See what I mean...

I think its a really unique mix of modern with vintage which is a winner not just aesthetically but also functionally ...Not to forget, a real space saver in this particular case..a single-room home on Manhattan's Upper East Side...

The space between the two surfaces serves as an excellent place to display some favorite things belonging to the homeowner, Matthew Kowles....

Chair redux...

BEFORE:

Shiny dark polish, a curly swirly pattern in  a most depressing shade of green....in one word- BLAH ( I know it's not really a word..but you get my point)...

THE INSPIRATION:

 This gorgeous leather upholstered chair in Robert Burke's apartment...

AFTER:

The original polish was scraped off...the wood sanded and painted white...then sanded again to give a distressed look and sealed. Since antiqued leather was not readily available, moreover I wasn't too keen on spending too much money on the chair makeover... I settled for the velvet fabric..not too different from the leather...

As there wasn't enough margin in the wood frame, we couldn't put a nailhead trim and used a corded satin ribbon as trim instead..

I think it turned out pretty neat..what do you think??
